Ichigo Momomiya

Ichigo Momomiya is the main protagonist of Tokyo Mew Mew and the first of the main Mews to be introduced. She is infused with the DNA of the Iriomote Wildcat and her Mew form is Mew Ichigo.
Ichigo is 12-13 years old in Tokyo Mew Mew (though one manga mistranslated her age as 11), with her age being raised to 16 in Mew Mew Power. She attends Daikan Junior High School, but in her spare time, she works at Café Mew Mew with the rest of the girls. She has a huge crush on Masaya Aoyama, who later becomes her boyfriend.

Personality

Ichigo is a very bright, happy, and hyper young girl who enjoys spending time with her friends. She has a bold nature and is very brave, except towards ghosts. Ichigo is hardworking, friendly, and a good leader. She can be very excitable, and sometimes overreacts when excited or angry. She is emotional, sometimes allowing her emotions to get the best of her. On occasion, Ichigo will succumb to her animal instincts and act very cat-like.

Appearance

Ichigo has pale skin, brown eyes, and cherry red hair that is often seen tied into pigtails with red ribbons. She wears a red ribbon with a bell on it around her neck. She has several different outfits, but is usually seen wearing her school uniform. When working at the café, she wears a red dress with a white, heart-shaped apron and pink and white ribbons. She also wears pink socks and laces with black shoes. Instead of pigtails, Ichigo's hair is clipped with a lace headband and let down.

Cat

Ichigo is shown to act like a cat sometimes, and even has cat-like agility from her animal DNA. When she becomes excited or scared, her ears and tail will pop out until she calms down. When she's kissed, she even turns into a small black cat and cannot turn back until she's kissed again.

When Ichigo transforms into a Mew, her hair and eyes turn a bright bubble gum pink to match her outfit. She grows black cat ears and a tail that has a dark pink ribbon tied around it with a bell. Her hair is let down and is slightly wavy. She wears a fluffy light pink dress with matching arm puffs and a garter on her right leg, as well as a choker around her neck which her Mew Pendant hangs from. Her gloves are wrist-length, dark pink, and pointed at the cuffs. Her knee-length boots are the same dark pink with black laces. She has dark pink fur that trims both the top of her dress, and the openings of her arm puffs, garter, and choker. Her Mew Mark is located on her inner right thigh.
Her weapon is the StrawBell Bell (often translated as Strawberry Bell), a strawberry-shaped ring with a golden bow under the stem with a pink heart on it, with her Mew Mark on it, and a golden bell hanging in the middle. Her attack with this weapon is "Ribbon Strawberry Check".
The StrawBell Bell can be combined with the Mew Berry Rod as an upgrade. When upgraded, Ichigo's attack is "Ribbon Strawberry Surprise". In Mew Mew Power, her weapon is translated as the Strawberry Bell and her attack is changed to "Strawberry Bell, Full Power". When combined with the Mew Berry Rod, her weapon is called the Rose Bell, with the attack being "Rose Bell, Full Power". She has a combined attack with Berry called "Ribbon DoubleBerry Check".
Ichigo also uses the Mew Aqua Rod (actually a transformed Masha in the manga), with the attack "Ribbon Aqua Drops".

Tokyo Mew Mew New

In the new anime, Ichigo's Mew form has received a redesign, now resembling her outfit from the re-turn manga. Her hair retains its red shade from her civilian form, but is loose from its pigtails. Her eyes are a similar shade of red. Mew Ichigo's outfit has the same boots and spiked trim seen in her new manga outfit, though the trim lacks the individual holes. Her gloves, which now have flared, spiky cuffs, each have a thin white band with a small, pink, gemstone heart attached.
Also, as seen in the new manga, her traditional pendant has been replaced by a large red neck ribbon with a heart-shaped brooch in the middle, which is pink with a golden base.
Instead of being plaid or pink and red, both her garter and the attached ribbon are red.

Transformation Upgrade

In the Tokyo Mew Mew PS1 game, Mew Ichigo’s form is upgraded thanks to Mew Ringo’s powers. In this form Mew Ichigo’s skirt becomes wider and has a red trim, she has a red bow on her lower back, and her hair is put up in wavy pigtails.

2020 Re-Turn

This section may have spoilers for the recent manga chapters.

Role

Ichigo still fights as a Mew in this manga, since Chimera Anima are still popping up in a now frozen-over Shibuya. It's briefly implied that the Chimera Anima are now being created through human intervention (such as through animal smuggling) rather than because of the aliens. Even after the events of the main series, Ichigo and the rest of the Tokyo Mew Mews are fighting to eradicate these Chimera Anima and restore balance to the area.
In the first chapter, a snow leopard Chimera Anima becomes stressed and fuses with a train. This may indicate that Chimera Anima can be merged with non-organic life. Mew Ichigo fights with both the aliens and the Mews to stop this creature, and in fact seems to be able to channel its memories, as she at some point is able to see the animal's memories of being captured and confined.

Appearance

In 2020 Re-Turn, Ichigo now wears her hair in two drooping pigtails. She has a polka-dotted loose fitting dress with a lacy trim, buttons all the way down, puffy sleeves, and both black and white frilly trim. Underneath her dress, she wears a tighter, black, long-sleeve shirt. On her legs and feet, she has plaid socks and closed toed shoes with a light trim and bows on the top. Ichigo is also seen wearing the choker that Masaya gave to her in the original series.
Ichigo is still working at Café Mew Mew with her teammates, Keiichiro, Ryou, and Tasuku. Her café uniform is not that much different than it was before, though she now wears thin ribbon bows in her hair. As in the original series, Ichigo continues to have her animal parts pop out in periods of high emotions, can transform into a cat, and can understand felines the way some of her other teammates could speak to and understand their respective animals.

Mew Form

In the new manga, Mew Ichigo's outfit is slightly altered. It has spiked trim similar to that of her transformation upgrade in the PS1 game, only each spike has a small hole in it, and this extends to every part of her outfit with this trim. She now has spiked ends on her boots with thick ribbon laces tied in a bow on top. These ribbons weave over and under one another going down along the front of her boots all the way to where her feet begin.
Mew Ichigo's gloves now have ribbons around the wrists and she no longer has a pendant on her choker. Instead, she has an oversized bow (though slightly smaller than the one on her tail) with a heart-shaped brooch in the middle, complete with a gold base and pink gem center. Unlike her first outfit, the choker only has trim on the bottom, not the top.
Instead of the traditional garters with fuzzy trim as seen in the original series, Mew Ichigo now has a gold and red colored plaid ribbon with spiked red trim on her right leg. The new manga also depicts a zipper on the middle of the torso of her outfit. She also now has two-tone hair, still retaining her signature pink color but with a section of blue hair underneath.
Her weapon is still the StrawBell Bell. Her new attack is "Mew Sunshine Drops", which she initiates with the Mew Aqua Rod. This attack appears to retain the same cleansing properties as her other attack, Ribbon Aqua Drops, as it clears up the cold weather in Shibuya.

Fanfics

Another: Tokyo Mew Mew

In Whiteweaver's fanfic, Ichigo is still the main protagonist and leader of the Mew Mews three years after the original series. She now attends high school together with her boyfriend, Masaya Aoyama, and has her red hair tied up in a ponytail with her bell-ribbon.

Mew Mew Power: Apprentice

In Apprentice, Ichigo is known as Zoey Hanson. She is a secondary protagonist and is now sixteen years old. She is still the leader of the original Mew Mew Power, but as her Mew powers are diminishing she now mentors Gwen Sawyer, one of the Mew Apprentices. Zoey has matured with age, but still remains the same happy, perky girl her friends know and love.

Mythical Mew Mew

During Mythical Mew Mew, Ichigo is around 35 years old. She has matured over the years, but still retains her perkiness and short temper. Ichigo is married to Masaya and works as a wildlife biologist.

Tokyo Mew Mew: Replaced

In TMMR, it has been two years since the end of the Mew incidents.
Ichigo appears in the prologue, with Mint, during which she opens a letter inviting her and her friends to a vacation in Europe.
During the course of TMMR, it seems she is still away on the trip. The team later discovers that the Tokyo Mew Mews have been captured and are being held hostage by the aliens. They are later freed by Natasha and Kashi and Ichigo aides in the final fight against Shinichi.
