"You really think I'll give up without a fight?!"
- Mythical Mew Mew
- Suguri Himura (緋村すぐり, Himura Suguri) is one of the main protagonists of Mythical Mew Mew. Her Mew form is Mew Wineberry.
Appearance |
---|
Suguri |
---|
- Suguri is a short, stocky girl with olive skin. Her messy dark red hair reaches just past her shoulders and flares slightly at the ends. Her bangs are swept to the side, with a single lock falling on her forehead. Suguri has a broad nose, which is crooked from repeated breaks, and large round brown eyes bordered by short, thin eyelashes. A scar cuts through one eyebrow, and she has a brown band-aid over her jaw.
- Her sense of style leaves much to be desired, as many of her outfits contain clashing colors, strange patterns, and are often improperly sized. She prefers clothes that are easy to move in, such as tank-tops and shorts. While at school, she wears the standard girls' uniform with a large dark gray hoodie, red tracksuit pants beneath her skirt, white calf socks, and a pair of red and white sneakers.
Café Étoile |
---|
- Suguri's café uniform is a perfect replica of the ones used by Tokyo Mew Mew. It's primarily colored dark red with bright red accessories.
Mew Wineberry |
---|
- When transformed, Mew Wineberry has vibrant red hair and matching eyes. Black bat ears protrude from her scalp, matching bat wings unfold from her back, and a scaly iguana tail hangs down from her lower back. Her outfit is a high-necked shin-length coat that opens up at her ribs, and a pair of red shorts. Her shoes are a pair of red boots with thick dark red cuffs, and her red gloves are fingerless.
- She also has red garters on both arms, her left thigh, and a choker around her neck, all lined with dark red lace. A golden pendant with ruby markings resembling Mew Strawberry's Mew Mark hangs from the choker. Her Mew Mark, a pair of bat wings attached to a circle with two stars beneath it, is placed above her navel.
- She also has red and dark red garters on both arms, a dark red garter with a matching bow on her left thigh, and a red collar lined with dark red lace. The collar has a big dark red bow around it, and attached to the bow is a red, heart-shaped amulet with a golden base. Her Mew Mark, a pair of bat wings attached to a circle with two stars beneath it, is placed above her navel.
Personality |
---|
- It's hard to tell if Suguri is purposely rude and abrasive or if she's simply insensitive and tactless. In truth, it's a bit of both; she has no brain-to-mouth filter, but also finds it highly entertaining to rile people up. Suguri sees no reason to hold back on what she thinks, regardless of who it hurts. This includes assigning people rude nicknames, which she uses in place of their actual name.
- Rebellion and contrarianism are Suguri's bread and butter. If you tell her not to do something, she'll do it, simply to be defiant. She particularly hates authority figures and authority as a concept. Freedom is incredibly important to Suguri, and anyone trying to exercise a modicum of control over her is an enemy, and it's now her life's goal to make their day worse.
- Suguri is highly aggressive and has a hair trigger temper. She is prone to getting physical when her short fuse gets the best of her, resulting in a reputation for getting into fist-fights and attacking people with little provocation. Her impulse control and self-preservation skills are similarly lacking. Suguri doesn't need much prompting or motivation to perform risky stunts such as scaling the wall of her school building and entering her classroom through the window to avoid being late.
Abilities |
---|
Transformation |
---|
- Suguri’s transformation begins with her kissing her Mew Pendant and declaring her metamorphosis. The next scene shows Suguri with her DNA morphing in the background. She then runs and jumps forward into a handspring, as her hands momentarily touch the ground a small flash of fire causes her gloves to appear.
- She then flips and twirls through the air as the fire covering her body forms her coat and shorts. Suguri lands on her feet as her boots appear, and a blaze of fire reveals her choker, garters and pendant. Finally, she poses.
- Suguri's hair is next; changing shade, growing longer, and her bangs becoming pinned back as she runs a hand through it. She then flexes her back as light forms her bat wings and lizard tail. Finally, she does a backwards handspring and poses on a background with her DNA animals silhouetted.
Natural |
---|
- Despite her small size, Suguri is much stronger than she looks and can pack quite a punch.
- Her constant delinquency has allowed her to pick up a variety of skills, such as lock-picking, pick-pocketing, and a keen eye.
Mew Mew |
---|
- Suguri's infusion has affected her body and physical capabilities. Certain abilities are only prominent while transformed. Like the other Mew Mews, she can withstand injuries much better than a regular person.
Fighting Style |
---|
- She fights with an axe known as the Wineberry Guitaxe, this weapon allows her to perform an attack named Ribbon Wineberry Burst.
Story |
---|
Prior to Mythical Mew Mew |
---|
- Suguri was born and raised in a small Okinawan village as the only child of Miho and Fujio Himura. Starting in preschool, Suguri constantly get into physical fights with other students, with her usually being the instigator. This made her a near permanent fixture in both the principal's and counselor's offices, but no matter what methods they tried, Suguri's behavior wouldn't improve.
- When Suguri was 12 her father got a job offer in Tokyo that would come with a steep pay increase. It wasn't long before the family left for the mainland, much to Suguri's dismay.

Chapter 03: The Troublesome Mew Wineberry Appears!! |
---|
- Suguri will appear in this chapter.
Relationships |
---|
- Ame and Suguri did not get along at all initially. Ame viewed Suguri as an aggressive, uncouth delinquent, not helped by Suguri attacking her and Kyoho during their first encounter.
Development |
---|
- Back in the earliest stages of development, I had planned for the then unnamed dragon Mew to be the second member of the team. I had also considered giving her and the unicorn Mew a 'knight and princess' dynamic, in which the dragon Mew would doggedly guard the princess at any cost while maintaining unwavering loyalty.
- The decision to make her an aromantic asexual came about due to the common association between dragons and asexuals[1].
- She was previously named Suguri Akamura, AKA Mew Currant.
- She was initially infused with only the Honduran spiny-tailed iguana.
